Bruce hails Hull´s spirit

Steve Bruce revelled in Hull City s 3-1 win at Sunderland and backed his side to surpass the 16th-place finish they managed last season.

Hull travelled to the Stadium of Light in the Premier League relegation zone and seeking a first victory in 11 top-flight games.

That run had put pressure on Bruce, who was up against the team he managed between 2009-11, and despite falling behind just 29 seconds into the contest, goals from Gaston Ramirez, James Chester and substitute Nikica Jelavic secured a deserved win.

We could have buckled after conceding an early goal, but the players have showed great spirit, Bruce said.  Our second-half display was arguably as good as we ve seen this season.

Prediction: West Brom vs Manchester City

Verdict: Manchester City -1

Best Odds:

Bookmakers:

The third round of the EFL Cup, now known as the Carabao Cup, pits Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City juggernauts against a slow-and-steady West Brom side managed by Tony Pulis. With both teams vying for a place in the fourth round it remains to be seen in the Baggies can withstand the Citizens’ onslaught.

West Brom

Tony Pulis’ sides are rarely famed for their goal-scoring prowess, and that looks to be the case once again this season as the Baggies have failed to score more than one goal in any of their Premier League games thus far. However their conservative approach has resulted in only a single loss this season in all competitions – a surprising 3-1 defeat at home to newly promoted Brighton …

I´d like to see Alphonso Davies in Premier League or LaLiga – Desailly

Bayern Munich teenager Alphonso Davies is an exciting talent Marcel Desailly would like to see playing in the Premier League or LaLiga.

Davies, 19, enjoyed a breakout 2019-20 campaign with Bayern, establishing himself as one of the best left-backs in Europe as the club sealed a Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League treble.

It capped a remarkable journey from being born in a refugee camp in Ghana after his parents fled their native Liberia during the country s second civil war.

Davies moved to Canada with his family and attained citizenship in 2017, with two-time Champions League winner Desailly, who was born in Ghana but lifted the World Cup with France in 1998, saying the Bayern star s career shows miracles can happen .

Italy 1-0 Wales: Imperious Azzurri cap perfect group campaign

Italy kept up their outstanding form as Roberto Mancini s men made it three wins from as many games at Euro 2020 with a 1-0 victory over 10-man Wales.

With progression from Group A already assured, Mancini named a much-changed side in Rome, but the Azzurri s squad depth was on show on Sunday.

Indeed, it was one of Italy s new faces who got the winner – Matteo Pessina becoming the youngest Italian player to score on his first start at a major tournament since Antonio Cassano at Euro 2004. Pessina s moment came with a neat flick in the 39th minute.

Wales comeback hopes appeared to have been dashed when Ethan Ampadu saw red, although Gareth Bale then missed a golden chance. Yet Italy sealed an 11th straight win and made it 30 games unbeaten in the process to …
